Learn to Love Yourself
Self-love is something that many of us struggle with, and it's a concept that may not have even entered our minds until much later in life. As a child, I experienced bullying, which caused me to become hypervigilant and pay close attention to other people's emotional states. Although this helped me anticipate patterns in human behavior, it also meant that I neglected my own needs.
When the pandemic hit, I found myself feeling sad and sometimes depressed, which made me wonder if I loved myself as much as I thought. As a result, I made the decision to prioritize self-love and now I’m reaping the benefits. I’ve got some tips on how you too can increase your self-love.
Look in the mirror and find something nice about yourself to compliment. Instead of focusing on the parts of your body that you don't like, try to see yourself in your totality. Your body is always doing the best it can, and it's important to appreciate it for everything that it does for you.
Create a list of affirmations that focus on the positive characteristics of the person you are or want to become. These affirmations should be repeated every day, and you should look at yourself in the mirror as you say them. Affirmations are a great way to reprogram your brain and step into who you are called to be.
Start meditating. Here’s what meditation helped me learn. The loudest voice in your head isn’t necessarily the right one. When you meditate, you start to get a birds eye view of what's really going on with you. I’ve found that even just 10 minutes of meditation helps calm my nerves and I feel rejuvenated.
Learn to relax. It's especially tough if you’ve the type of person whose family isn't in a position to support them financially. Maybe you paid your way through school, or your family of origin depends on you for financial support so you send money home. You feel like if you stop working, you’re letting them down or inhibiting your success. However, I want you to consider that you can’t pour from an empty cup. In order to help others you have to first thrive, not just survive. Relaxation will help as studies show that it improves sleep, overall mood, digestion, and boosts your immune system.
Learning to love yourself is a lifelong process. And while these tips are helpful, sometimes you need more. If you’re ready to change your life learn about my Path to Power Program.
