Before You Change Careers, Read This… (Copy)

Feeling stuck in your current job is a common experience for many of us. It's normal to wake up one day and realize that you don't like where you are and want something different. But what should you do about it? Should you take the risk and make a change, or stick with what you know? As a life coach, I firmly believe that making a change is the best thing you can do for yourself. Here are four reasons why:

  1. It won't get better, and you'll get bitter. If you feel stuck in your current job, it's unlikely that you will suddenly become inspired by it over time. While it's always beneficial to look at your situation from a place of gratitude, staying unhappy in a job that doesn't fulfill you is a disservice to yourself. Think about the people you know who are bitter and resentful - most of the time it's because they settled in some area of their life and now they regret it. Don't let that happen to you. Make the change, because the regret of not doing it sooner is greater than the sting of a failed attempt.

  2. Time is of the essence. Unless you're lucky enough to have a trust fund or win the lottery, you're going to have to work for the majority of your life. So you need to make sure it's something you enjoy. Maybe you're afraid to switch careers because that means you'll have to start over and learn from scratch. But the further along you get in your career, the more frustrated you'll become if it doesn't fulfill you. Changing careers won’t be easy but you'll have more drive and a feeling of satisfaction because you’ll enjoy your work.

  3. Your intuition is telling you something needs to change. Despite your best efforts to feel content, if you still feel dissatisfied, that's your intuition telling you something needs to change. Every time in my life that I've made a career change, it started as a gut feeling that I was brave enough to explore. The key is to remember that it might not look exactly how you imagined it in your head, but God has a plan for you and part of fulfilling your purpose on this earth is listening to your intuition and believing that you make good decisions.

  4. Security is an illusion. The global pandemic taught us that security is an illusion. We can do "everything right" and still lose our job. We can do "everything right" and still have someone treat us poorly. So much of the world is out of our control. What is in our control is how we decide to spend our time here on earth. Whether you decide to take a chance on yourself or play it safe, the choice is yours, and that's the beauty of free will.

Feeling stuck in your current job is a common experience, but it's not a life sentence. Making a change is the best thing you can do for yourself. Take the time to devise a plan, get support, and execute. Whether it takes six months or six years, start now, and who knows what you'll discover about yourself in the process. Remember, I was once in your shoes. If you want help through this process, consider my Path to Power Program. I’d love to help you break free and build a live you love!
